One Health Data Analytics

Join the One Health Data Analytics Capacity Development Program, an initiative designed to empower professionals across Africa with advanced skills in data management, analysis, and visualization to support One Health priorities

          GIZ, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), has been supporting digitized One Health governance in Africa through the One Health Data Alliance Africa (OHDAA) project. OHDAA works with the African Union Institutions, IGAD, and three countries (Cameroon, Malawi, Rwanda) to enhance the use of data for One Health. OHDAA also fosters collaboration across the continent through a community of practice (CoP), now extended with a one-year capacity development program on One Health Analytics. 

              Objectives

            • Enhance participants' capacity to better use One Health data in countries and regions.

            • Support current One Health priorities with data management, data analytics, data visualization, etc.

            • Foster knowledge exchange among participants and develop innovative solutions in a diverse community

            • Utilize advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLMs), and decision support algorithms

            Targeted Participants 

            Professionals actively involved in or interested in One Health initiatives across Africa, particularly from academia, private sector, or civil society to complement a group of government representatives. The aim is to add innovative perspectives in data analytics . We encourage applications from individuals who:

            • Have basic experience in data analysis, data management, digital health, or related fields.

            • Are involved in handling data for One Health-related fields such as human health and animal health data or environmental data. No prior experience in One Health projects needed.

            • Are willing to share their knowledge and experiences with peers and contribute to a community of practice.

            • Women and persons with disabilities  applicants are strongly encouraged to apply

            Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

            What is the timeline for the program?

            The program will last approximately one year, starting in October 2024. It will include a mix of online and in-person training sessions, as well as mentored project work. Key dates include:

            • November 2024Program starts with an on-site workshop in Kigali, Rwanda.

            • November 2024 - February 2025 : Online trainings.

            • March - August 2025 : Mentored projects.

            • October 2025 : Final on-site meeting.

            Participants will need to commit approximately 1.5 day per month to the program. This includes attending online and in-person training sessions, as well as working on mentored projects and participating in group activities or discussions.

            Yes, the GIZ OHDAA project will cover participation costs, including travel and accommodation for in-person workshops.

            Participants should have at least intermediate proficiency in English to follow the training. The program will be delivered in English, but trainers can provide assistance in French if needed.

            Yes, most definitely! We will have provisions to include field experts and practitioners to host training sessions, share best practices and present experience from their projects. Please contact us by email.

            The program is designed specifically for professionals who are actively working in One Health-related fields, data analytics, or similar sectors. Unfortunately, students are not eligible to apply at this time. We encourage individuals with relevant professional experience to apply
